Through the Ashes of Disaster Comes the Roses of Success
I was watching the classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with my kids last night. The kids were mesmerized at the car that could do anything. My three year old let me know she wants a car just like that.

The car that could do anything
What struck me though was the profoundness of Grandpa Potts statement and song. From the Ashes of Disaster Come the Roses of Success. As I look back at the last couple of years of my life. I am finding that every time there is a disaster. There usually comes a windfall of success behind it.
It amazes me the people who pray daily for opportunities to come their way. Now I am not offering up a religious answer just stating fact. Then the day arrives. Someone brings them an opportunity. Then they say NO! Why does this happen? I believe that people get so drawn into their current bad situation that they cannot see what they are asking for is being handed to them gift wrapped. Waiting for them to open. Every morning I know of several people whom I talk business to on a regular basis. Allow great opportunities slip by and allow their situation to get worse because the opportunity isn’t what they thought it should be.
Case in point myself. In 1995 I lost a business due to a lack of capital. We upside down we knew it and we got out as quickly as we could. Now at that time I was 23 bankrupt and about to lose my home. I did not want to go back to a job. I thought if I could only find another opportunity I could make it. I began to pray for this and open my mind to the possibilities.
Seeing the job market as being fairly bleak for someone with my lack of skills. I was looking. I however was looking in the wrong direction. Withing 3 months 16 people contacted me with the exact same business opportunity. By 15 I was mad. I couldn’t figure out why they were bothering me I mean I am praying and asking and seeking another business opportunity right? But not that one.
Finally when the 16th person called I listened. My eyes were oppened to a fantastic opportunity and almost immediately our lives improved. Amazing isn’t is. I couldn’t see the roses of a new opportunity through the Ashes of my current failure . I am saddened today when I see people as stuck as I was. I am just grateful that the opportunity did not pass me by as it has so many others I have known.
