Mentorship– A key to success

Today I am writing about Mentorship. This I think is a true key to the success of great leaders. Both as a student and a mentor. One gains insights that you would gain on your own.

I got the privilege of spending a few hours with my personal mentor tonight. We were discussing our businesses and where we and our teams were headed. As I was sitting their doing most of the talking as usual. I realized how important it is to have someone there watching out for you in life and business.

Having my father check out of my life at an early age. I have always looked for someone to be able to give me guidance in my life.  As the years have passed I have learned that a great mentor is not so hard to find but is hard to live without. In an ever changing world I couldn’t imagine charging off in a direction without the wise council of someone more experienced than I.

As I mentor others I find that in order to be a good mentor you must have had or do have a great mentor yourself. This person must be willing to give you their straight forward opinion. No holds Bared!

I as the student must be willing to take the council without allowing personal feelings to get involved. If I am running a business into the ground and a mentor out of fear of hurting my feelings won’t tell me. Neither one  of us is served.

Mentorship is a wonderful thing it makes the mediocre successful. and the successful even more so.
